Fire King

The release of Fire King Courtier Ulcanix introduced a new Fire King build to the competitive scene, one without the need to run the Sinful Spoils and Snake-Eye package.

Fire King Courtier Ulcanix functions as another starter. When Fire King Courtier Ulcanix is Normal Summoned or Special Summoned, its ① effect could destroy 1 other FIRE monster in your hand or face-up field, to add Legendary Fire King Ponix from deck to hand. Legendary Fire King Ponix ① effect would Special Summon itself from hand, then Legendary Fire King Ponix ② effect would add Fire King Sanctuary from deck to hand, and that would go off into the standard Fire King combos.

Besides the victory in “36th RAM Cup”, Kaiba Syacho had also finished 3rd in “170th Next Play Cup” and 3rd in “Next Play Cup in Battle Space”. Being able to repeat his performance in multiple tournaments showed that mono Fire King has potential, but is still not as good as Sinful Spoils Snake-Eye Fire King in the current format. Mono Fire King lacks a reliable going first strategy against Tenpai Dragon as they do not have Snake-Eye monsters to Xyz Summon Lyrilusc – Assembled Nightingale.

Kaiba Syacho (海馬しゃちょー) went 8-0 (excluding 1 bye) and finished 1st in “36th RAM Cup Individual Tournament (Omori Venue)” which had 74 participants.

Snake-Eye

Some players have started running 1 Sinful Spoils of Subversion – Snake-Eye in the Main Deck as an out to Kaiser Colosseum.

Against Tenpai Dragon opening with Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres and Kaiser Colosseum, Snake-Eye could start off with Special Summoning Diabellstar the Black Witch, and use its effect to set Sinful Spoils of Subversion – Snake-Eye from deck. Then Diabellstar the Black Witch would attack into Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres to force out its effect. In Main Phase 2, Sinful Spoils of Subversion – Snake-Eye would be able to place the monster Special Summoned by Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres effect into the opponent’s Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell. With no monsters on the opponent’s field, Kaiser Colosseum no longer applies.

RAM went 7-1 and finished 1st in “Asaka ★ Goyusai 2024 Spring” (5v5 Team) which had 34 teams (170 participants).

Voiceless Voice

Many players have cut Odd-Eyes Pendulumgraph Dragon from the Main Deck, and only running it in the Side Deck for the Voiceless Voice mirror match and Tenpai Dragon match-up.

The second copy of Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended is played instead, providing more protection against Effect Veiler and Infinite Impermanence, and could be later retrieved and Ritual Summoned with Blessing of the Voiceless Voice.

GenGen went 6-0 (excluding 2 byes) and finished 2nd in “Asaka ★ Goyusai 2024 Spring” (5v5 Team) which had 34 teams (170 participants).

Tenpai Dragon

Tenpai Dragon is weak against Runick, and as such, many Tenpai Dragon builds are now being tuned to improve their Runick match-up. One solution that Kabao (カバオ) and Kutora (クトラ) came up with is the run Secret Village of the Spellcasters to shutdown Runick from playing any Spell cards.

A standard setup would be as follow, opening with Tenpai Dragon Paidra + Tenpai Dragon Chundra + 1 card.

  1. Normal Summon Tenpai Dragon Paidra.
  2. Tenpai Dragon Paidra ① effect, add Sangen Summoning from deck to hand.
  3. Activate Sangen Summoning.
  4. Sangen Summoning ② effect, add Tenpai Dragon Fadra from deck to hand, discard 1 card.
  5. Tenpai Dragon Chundra ① effect, Special Summon itself from hand.
  6. Tenpai Dragon Chundra + Tenpai Dragon PaidraAncient Fairy Dragon.
  7. Ancient Fairy Dragon ① effect, Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Fadra from hand.
  8. Tenpai Dragon Fadra ① effect, Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Chundra from graveyard.
  9. Tenpai Dragon Chundra + Tenpai Dragon FadraShooting Riser Dragon.
  10. Shooting Riser Dragon ① effect, send Fairy Tail – Snow from deck to graveyard, reduce Shooting Riser Dragon Level by 4.
  11. Ancient Fairy Dragon ② effect, destroy Sangen Summoning, add Secret Village of the Spellcasters from deck to hand.
  12. Shooting Riser Dragon + Ancient Fairy DragonNirvana High Paladin.
  13. Activate Secret Village of the Spellcasters.

Nirvana High Paladin is a Spellcaster monster to enable Secret Village of the Spellcasters. Fairy Tail – Snow doubles as a Spellcaster monster and also provides a disruption.

3 Unending Nightmare in the Side Deck alongside 3 Cosmic Cyclone are also for the Runick match-up.

Kabao (カバオ) went 5-3 and finished 1st in “Asaka ★ Goyusai 2024 Spring” (5v5 Team) which had 34 teams (170 participants).

Conclusion

We have come to the end of OCG 2024.01 format and it ends with Fire King, Snake-Eye, Tenpai Dragon and Voiceless Voice at the top.

The OCG 2024.04 Limit Regulation will be announced in a few hours. It is highly anticipated as the OCG 2024.04 format marks the start of the World Championship Qualifier 2024 season.
