Eldlich

Yukoma (ゆこま) went 7-0 and finished 1st in “4th AppMedia Cup” which had 128 participants.

1 Necroworld Banshee and 1 Zombie World in the Main Deck provides a searchable option to shutdown Floowandereeze. Zombie World also complements with Rivalry of Warlords and There Can Be Only One.

Eldlich has been a consistent top contender since Season 1. Having a variety of floodgate options that Eldlich could switch around according to the metagame, and the difficulty of committing backrow destruction in Master Duel No Side Deck format, contributed to its longevity.

Adventurer Tenyi

Satou Toru “シロッコくん” (YCSJ Tokyo 2018 Champion, YCSJ Yokohama 2022 Top 8) went 6-1 and finished 2nd in “10th Master CS with Mainichi CS” which had 120 participants.

The release of Adventurer cards finally completes the Rose Dragon Tenyi strategy and propels it straight to the top. Rite of Aramesir Special Summons an “Adventurer Token” and place Fateful Adventure from deck onto the field. Fateful Adventure provides access to the Level 7 Wandering Gryphon Rider, which could be used with a Rose Dragon monster to Synchro Summon Baronne de Fleur, or used with a Tenyi monster to Xyz Summon Number 42: Galaxy Tomahawk.

Prank-Kids

Fuqin Shizhang (副寢室長) went 6-2 and finished 3 – 4th in “9th Same Man Cup” which had 80 participants.

Prank-Kids is another deck that has been greatly boosted by Adventurer. When a Prank-Kids monster effect is activated after being used as Fusion or Link material, Fateful Adventure can be activated as Chain 2 to add Dracoback, the Rideable Dragon from deck to hand, blocking the opponent from disrupting with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. After that Wandering Gryphon Rider could be searched out and Special Summoned to provide protection against ‘hand traps’ such as Nibiru, the Primal Being.

Floowandereeze

miri went 7-0 and finished 1st in “Mainichi CS Special Cup 7/16” which had 101 participants.

Floowandereeze debuts in the top, riding on Floowandereeze & Empen and Barrier Statue of the Stormwinds to lock down the opponent. The ability to run Dimension Shifter is another advantage as the other top contenders are all reliant on using the graveyard.

Master Duel No Side Deck format also meant that many decks could open with dead cards such as Maxx “C” in the match-up against Floowandereeze.

Virtual World

Joel went 6-0 and finished 1st in “Halo Cup #7” which had 64 participants.

Adventurer brought upon a resurgence of Virtual World into the metagame. Opening with Wandering Gryphon Rider protects the subsequent Virtual World plays from disruption. If Wandering Gryphon Rider was used to negate an opponent’s card or effect, then the “Adventurer Token” could be used with a Level 6 tuner such as Virtual World Roshi – Laolao to Synchro Summon Baronne de Fleur, providing another layer of protect.

Virtual World’s standard True King of All Calamities with Virtual World Gate – Chuche opening is now much more threatening with another Wandering Gryphon Rider or Baronne de Fleur.

Interestingly this Adventurer Virtual World build did not have a chance to flourish in the OCG as the announcement of True King of All Calamities being forbidden came just 2 weeks after the release of Deck Build Pack: Grand Creators.

Conclusion

The impact of Wandering Travelers is evident in 4 of the top 6 decks are running the Adventurer package, namely Adventurer Tenyi, Prank-Kids, Virtual World and Adventurer Good Stuff. Eldlich could also run the Adventurer package, but is mostly deemed unnecessary.

This is perhaps also the point where Master Duel is diverging from the OCG and tries to stand out as its own format. Changes were made pre-emptively such as semi-limiting of Fusion Destiny, Water Enchantress of the Temple and Rite of Aramesir, causing the metagame to develop in a slightly different direction. Leaving True King of All Calamities and Zoodiac Drident at limited also allowed Adventurer Virtual World and Destiny Adventurer Zoodiac to become viable builds, something fresh that was not seen before in the OCG.
