Releaser Dragoon

Briefly mentioned in OCG 2020.01 Metagame Weekly Report #2, Releaser Dragoon is the next evolution of the Dragoon deck.

This article will breakdown 2 combos that Releaser Dragoon uses to setup a powerful opening board.

20. Linkross + Cherubini, Ebon Angel of the Burning Abyss → Predaplant Verte Anaconda.
21. Predaplant Verte Anaconda ② effect, send Red-Eyes Fusion from deck to graveyard, Fusion Summon Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon.

22. During the opponent’s turn, Fairy Tail – Snow ② effect, banish 7 cards from the graveyard as cost, Special Summon itself from the graveyard.
23. Fairy Tail – Snow ① effect, target and change 1 opponent’s face-up monster to face-down Defense Position.

These are two core combos for Releaser Dragoon.

Combo 1 opens with Cherubini, Ebon Angel of the Burning Abyss. This combo uses I:P Masquerena to bring out Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax during the opponent’s turn. While Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax is face-up on the field, your other monsters cannot be targeted for attacks, hence protecting Nekroz of Clausolas from battle.

Combo 2 opens with Crystron Halqifibrax. This combo is 1 Link Material short of bringing out I:P Masquerena, so it goes for Fairy Tail – Snow instead. If the opponent Normal Summons and attempts to take out Nekroz of Clausolas with an attack, Fairy Tail – Snow would be able to flip the attacking monster face-down and stop the attack.

This is very strong lock, having Djinn Releaser of Rituals used for the Ritual Summon of Nekroz of Clausolas denies the opponent from Special Summoning, essentially covering up the weakness of being cleared by Kaiju or Super Polymerization. Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax or Fairy Tail – Snow protects Nekroz of Clausolas from attacks, while Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon provides 1 negation.

The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode is currently the only out, and if it does become popular, we might see Necroworld Banshee and Zombie World being run as a counter to Ra Sphere Mode.
