Infernoble Knight Vol.2

Infernoble Knight got off to a good start with a couple of tops, most notably 1st place in a tournament with 64 participants. This puts Infernoble Knight on the radar as players begun preparing against it.

Continuing from Infernoble Knight Vol.1, this article will show how Infernoble Knight adapt to the metagame by refining their deck build and combo.

Strategy

The initial build ran Neo Space Connector + Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin to turbo out Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights, but it had some significant flaws. Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin could not pick off Nibiru, the Primal Being due to the high ATK, while other common ‘hand traps’ such as Maxx “C”, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Effect Veiler could be chained to it.

The biggest problem was that both Neo Space Connector and Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin are LIGHT and WATER attribute. Infernoble Knight – Renaud could not be Special Summoned when Neo Space Connector was negated, and copies of Neo Space Connector and Neo-Spacian Aqua Dolphin in hand could not be sent to graveyard to Special Summon Infernoble Knight – Olivier.

The revised strategy is now built around God Phoenix Gearfried. When opening with God Phoenix Gearfried, it could be dropped before the fifth summon to negate Nibiru, the Primal Being, as well as protect Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights and Crystron Halqifibrax from being negated by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring or Effect Veiler.

The following combos will showcase some openings with God Phoenix Gearfried.

Discussion

Combo 4 and Combo 5 are methods to open with God Phoenix Gearfried, and then continuing with only four Main Monster Zones.

These 2-card combos create 4 disruptions:

  • God Phoenix Gearfried negates 1 monster effect
  • Borreload Savage Dragon negates 1 card or effect activation
  • Infernoble Knight Emperor – Charlemagne destroys 1 card
  • Smoke Grenade of the Thief discards 1 card

Combo 6 is the best possible setup with 2 cards, but not opening with God Phoenix Gearfried makes it vulnerable to disruptions. This is a possible route to take if you are confident that the opponent has no disruption, perhaps after having seen their hand with Three Tactical Talents.

This 2-card combo creates 5 disruptions:

  • God Phoenix Gearfried negates 1 monster effect
  • Borreload Savage Dragon negates 1 card or effect activation
  • Herald of the Arc Light negates 1 Spell/Trap card or monster effect activation
  • Infernoble Knight Emperor – Charlemagne destroys 1 card
  • Smoke Grenade of the Thief discards 1 card

The shift towards God Phoenix Gearfried has multiple advantages. Running more FIRE Warrior monsters makes it easier to extend with Infernoble Knight – Renaud and Infernoble Knight – Olivier when disrupted. Having more Infernoble Knight also allows the deck to play Noble Knight support cards such as Glory of the Noble Knights and Ignoble Knight of High Laundsallyn.

Deskbot 001 or Jet Synchron
Both are Level 1 Machine Tuners that could Special Summon themselves from the graveyard. While most builds initially started with Jet Synchron, but after more playtesting, it was found that Infernoble Knight are very tight on cards and often could not afford the discard. Deskbot 001‘s requirement can be fulfilled with Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon effect which Special Summons 3 Machine Tokens.

Stardust Charge Warrior or Coral Dragon
This is a long running debate that has no clear-cut answer yet. Coral Dragon has more utility, but mainly when going second. In that situation, it might be better to go straight for Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. The advantage that Stardust Charge Warrior has is being able to be Synchro Summoned as a non-Tuner, or a Tuner via Martial Metal Marcher, allowing more flexibility in combos.

 

Conclusion

To play around Nibiru, the Primal Being, Infernoble Knight has switched up their build and strategy to be more focused on bringing out an early God Phoenix Gearfried. The deck becomes more resilient against disruption by cutting down on the explosive but fragile combos, and focusing on God Phoenix Gearfried combos.

However, as God Phoenix Gearfried can only negate Monster Effects, we could expect more Infinite Impermanence to be run against Infernoble Knight.

    Very nice combo tutorial!

    I got interested in Combo 6 because Borreload Savage Dragon, Charlemagne, Herald of Arc Light and God Pheanix Gearfried seems like an excellent end board. But I believe I found a misplay in the combo.

    In step 16 of the combo Infernoble Knight – Olivier and 1 Link Token are linked off to make Crystron Halqifibrax, but Linkross states that the tokens it summons cannot be used as Link Material for the rest of the turn.

    Can the combo be changed in any way to still achieve that same end board?

      That was a typo, it should be “Linkross”. The 2 Link Tokens are actually used in Step 18.

      But if herald is on the field,can the effect of roland at step 34 of combo 6 resolve ? Since the equip card would be banished instead of being sent to the gy.
