Discussion

The most significant advantage that Spright has is its extremely high consistency. Every Level 2 Spright monster could be Special Summoned from hand while you control a Level 2 monster, allowing them to easily flood the field to make plays. This is a built-in Special Summon and not an effect, which means that the opponent would have to activate their Maxx “C” pre-emptively.

Spright Blue and Spright Jet via Spright Starter could search for each other, allowing the deck to quickly mass up monsters on the field to make plays. As seen in the above combos, most 1-card and 2-card opener could reach the optimal setup of Spright Elf and Toadally Awesome for double negation.

Spright Starter being a Quick-Play Spell makes it very versatile. In Combo 1, an alternative play is to add Spright Starter from deck to hand instead of Spright Smashers. Spright Starter could be set and activated on opponent’s turn to Special Summon Spright Red or Spright Carrot for additional monster effect or Spell/Trap effect negation.

Combo 4 and Combo 5 are simple tricks to make use of Gigantic Spright or Crystron Halqifibrax to Special Summon a ‘hand trap’ and then using Swap Frog to bounce it back to hand, effectively adding Maxx “C” or Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to your disruptions.

Combo 6 uses Maxx “C” as a springboard to kick-start the combo. Swap Frog would later bounce Maxx “C” back to hand so there is no downside.

Spright Elf is also useful for dodging Called by the Grave. When Called by the Grave is activated by targeting Maxx “C”, Spright Elf could be activated in a Chain to Special Summon back Maxx “C”. During resolution, Called by the Grave would be unable to banish and negate Maxx “C”, and Maxx “C” would resolve successfully. The same could be applied to Toadally Awesome to dodge Called by the Grave while the opponent controls a monster.

Spright could also quickly end games with Gigantic Spright and Cat Shark. While Gigantic Spright has a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, and/or Link Monster as its material, its original ATK would be doubled to 3200. Cat Shark ② effect could then be used on Gigantic Spright to double its original ATK, bringing it up to 6400.

Conclusion

High consistency, easy combos and decently strong opening setups make Spright a powerful top contender in the current OCG 2022.04 metagame.

Disrupting Gigantic Spright would be the most effective method to stop Spright, but they could open with a Spright Red or Spright Carrot to protect their combo from ‘hand traps’. Often at least two ‘hand traps’ are needed to have a chance at stopping Spright from going off.

Dark Ruler No More is sufficient to disable the standard Spright Elf and Toadally Awesome opening setup. However, they are likely to be supplemented with ‘hand traps’. Spright only needs 1 or 2 cards to start their combo, allowing the deck to run upwards of 15 ‘hand traps’ in the Main Deck.

Why do you need the Maxx C in Combo 6? Couldn’t you just Normal Summon the Splight?

I love this, and Britney yugioh needs more of this. Could you do a despia invoked dogma primer?

Swap Frog + Blue Splight combo is weak when facing multiple hand traps. I suggest to keep Splight starter in hand and special summon Gigantic Splight directly, or use Splight Stater to special summon Splight Red to position 1,3,5, then special summon Splight Elf and active its effect immediately. These two combos are better at facing several kinds of multiple hand traps.
