Tenpai Dragon

Yuna (ユナ) and his teammates, Zekkei (ぜっけい) and Ozu (オズ) played the exact same 70 cards deck build and finished 1st in “Yu-Gi-Oh! Area Championship 2024 Aichi”. In his tweet (@_yuu_0522), Yuna shared some insights on the deck build.

Nibiru, the Primal Being and the PSY-Framegear cards are LIGHT Attributes, and they would be affected by Dominus Impulse‘s drawback. The PSY-Framegear cards have the advantage of being able to be activated earlier than Nibiru, the Primal Being, allowing for more flexible sequencing to prevent being hindered by Dominus Impulse.

In the Side Deck, Solemn Judgment is prioritized over Solemn Strike due to the consideration of Runick and Tenpai Dragon mirror match. Solemn Judgment is much better against Runick as it could be used against the opponent’s Spell/Trap cards. Solemn Judgment could also be used to negate the opponent’s Normal Summon in the Tenpai Dragon mirror match, whereas Solemn Strike could only negate the Monster Effect of the Normal Summoned Monster, which could be protected by Sangen Summoning.

Yuna (ユナ) went 6-0 and finished 1st in “Yu-Gi-Oh! Area Championship 2024 Aichi” which had 83 teams (249 participants).

Snake-Eye

In a format with 3 Maxx “C” and 3 Mulcharmy Fuwaross, it is very likely that you would be forced to halt your opening combo to prevent giving the opponent too many draws. Running Continuous Trap such as Summon Limit, Skill Drain and There Can Be Only One becomes a counterplay, it stops the opponent from making their play on their turn, effectively buying you a turn.

Although the Azamina package provides protection in the form of Azamina Rhea Silvera, it also makes the deck more vulnerable to Droll & Lock Bird . A Droll & Lock Bird after Sinful Spoils Deception effect adds Sacred Azamina from deck to hand could be devastating as it not only stops Azamina Mu Rcielago, but also Snake-Eye Ash, Snake-Eyes Poplar, Fiendsmith Engraver, Bonfire, Fiendsmith’s Tract from adding card from deck to hand later in the turn.

Droll & Lock Bird could also be used to stop the opponent from drawing off Maxx “C” and Mulcharmy Fuwaross on your own turn. Some players may choose not to run the Azamina package to minimize the impact of Droll & Lock Bird on themselves.

1021201 went 14-0 and finished 1st in “China City Tournament 2024 Shenzhen” which had 800 participants.

Conclusion

Tenpai Dragon and Snake-Eye continue to dominate as the top contenders, leaving the rest of the decks far behind.

The current format is heavily defined by the presence of 3 Maxx “C” and 3 Mulcharmy Fuwaross, resulting in ‘hand trap’ heavy builds being the dominant strategy. Players are now building their decks expecting that they would not be able to combo off on the opening turn, and are using Continuous Traps and Solemn Counter Traps to edge out in the game of attrition.

  2. AI says:

Terrible format. They keep designing broken cards around maxx “c” as long as this cockroach can skip the 1st turn then when fiendsmith se deck is too broken instead of changing the way they creat cards they choose to print other versions of maxx “c” to prevent that deck playing turn 1. Can’t understand why they keep printing broken combo engine which only lose to maxx “c”, that makes tcg format so miserable when ocg core set imported just to start a tier 0 format when broken engines can’t be stopped because the the absence of maxx “c”.

  6. LeDN says:

So the game is too fast now, most decks can do 1 card combo. 3 Maxx “C”s aren’t enough to stop these decks, so Konami semi limited Called by the grave and limited Crossout Designator. Which still wasn’t enough, so they decided to print Fuwaross, and then people add 3 copies of Droll & Lock Bird to the anti-cockroaches pile now?
What a toxic format, we really in dire need of a nuclear banlist soon or else the game isn’t fun to play anymore.
