Fire King

There is a shift towards board breakers in the current metagame. Yubel decks and other decks that runs the Yubel package are able to setup an early Phantom of Yubel, making it difficult for ‘hand trap’ to effective disrupt the opponent’s combo. Forbidden Droplet is currently the most popular board breaker option that is played in the Side Deck.

Shinobu (しのぶ) went 6-0 and finished 1st in “Duelist King Cup Amenity Dream Akihabara Shop” which had 42 participants.

Tenpai Dragon

Besides being teched against Yubel, Samurai Destroyer could also be an option against Voiceless Voice.

When Samurai Destroyer battles with Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice, its Continuous Effect would negate Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice and revert its ATK to 2050, allowing Samurai Destroyer to destroy it by battle. The opponent could try to protect their Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice by using Radiance of the Voiceless Voice effect to destroy Samurai Destroyer before it declares an attack. Samurai Destroyer would be destroyed, but its ② effect could be triggered to Special Summon itself back from the graveyard, and the opponent would likely have to use Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice ③ effect to negate it. Samurai Destroyer has fulfilled its purpose of forcing out 2 disruptions from the opponent.

Suzuka (スズカ) went 7-1 (excluding 1 bye) and finished 2nd in “37th RAM Cup (Omori Venue)” which had 78 participants.

Snake-Eye

Besides Forbidden Droplet, Change of Heart is another popular board breaker that is played in the Side Deck. Change of Heart has already seen play as a tech against Fire King and Snake-Eye in the previous OCG 2024.01 format. In the current 2024.04 format it could also be teched against Yubel.

Against Fire King, Snake-Eye and Yubel, using Change of Heart to take control of their Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess is a great way to turn the game around. Some Yubel decks might opt to end on Knightmare Gryphon instead and Change of Heart could still be used against it. Taking control of their Knightmare Gryphon would caused their Phantom of Yubel to be no longer linked and thus would not be able to activate their effect. Meanwhile you could Special Summon your monsters beside Knightmare Gryphon to make sure they are linked and could activate their effects.

Haru (はる) went 6-0 and finished 1st in “Duelist King Cup Satellite Shop Osaka Nipponbashi” which had 47 participants, went 6-0 and finished 1st in “Duelist King Cup Satellite Shop Osaka Umeda” which had 64 participants, and went 6-0 and finished 1st in “Duelist King Cup Satellite Shop Kobe Sannomiya” which had 53 participants.

Yubel

New World – Amritara purpose in the Main Deck is for Set Rotation. By giving the opponent New World – Amritara with Set Rotation, opponent would be unable to activate New World – Amritara without Visas Starfrost on field. Then Set Rotation effect would prevent both players from activating or setting other Field Spells. This effectively cuts off the opponent from using their Field Spell, and is a powerful play against Fire King, Tenpai Dragon and Yubel.

Typhoon in the Side Deck is an interesting tech for the mirror match. Yubel would typically open with Nightmare Throne or Opening of the Spirit Gates, and then go into Nightmare Pain, and this would fulfill Typhoon condition allowing it to be activated from hand to destroy Nightmare Pain and disrupt their opening combo.

ACE finished 1st in “Lord of Dragon Card Shop Ranking Tournament” which had 44 participants.

Voiceless Voice

Running a small Melodious package in Voiceless Voice is an interesting option that allows the deck to setup Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess and Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon.

An opening with Ostinato is as follow:

  1. Activate Ostinato, Refrain the Melodious Songstress + Refrain the Melodious SongstressBacha the Melodious Maestra.
  2. Bacha the Melodious Maestra ① effect, Special Summon Refrain the Melodious Songstress from deck.
  3. Refrain the Melodious Songstress ① Monster Effect, add Couplet the Melodious Songstress from deck to hand.
  4. Couplet the Melodious Songstress ① Monster Effect, Special Summon Refrain the Melodious Songstress from graveyard.
  5. Activate Couplet the Melodious Songstress as Pendulum Scale.
  6. Couplet the Melodious Songstress ① Pendulum Effect, add Melodious Concerto from deck to hand.
  7. Refrain the Melodious Songstress + Refrain the Melodious SongstressHeavymetalfoes Electrumite.
  8. Heavymetalfoes Electrumite ① effect, add Odd-Eyes Pendulumgraph Dragon from deck to Extra Deck face-up.
  9. Activate Melodious Concerto ① effect, Bacha the Melodious Maestra + Couplet the Melodious SongstressBacha the Melodious Maestra.
  10. Chain 4: Refrain the Melodious Songstress ② Monster Effect, place this card in your Pendulum Zone.
  11. Chain 3: Couplet the Melodious Songstress ② Monster Effect, place this card in your Pendulum Zone.
  12. Chain 2: Bacha the Melodious Maestra ③ effect, Special Summon Refrain the Melodious Songstress from graveyard.
  13. Chain 1: Heavymetalfoes Electrumite ② effect, draw 1 card.
  14. Heavymetalfoes Electrumite ② effect, destroy Refrain the Melodious Songstress, add Odd-Eyes Pendulumgraph Dragon from Extra Deck to hand.
  15. Pendulum Summon Odd-Eyes Pendulumgraph Dragon from hand, and 2 Refrain the Melodious Songstress from Extra Deck.
  16. Odd-Eyes Pendulumgraph Dragon + Bacha the Melodious MaestraOdd-Eyes Absolute Dragon.
  17. Heavymetalfoes Electrumite + Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon + Refrain the Melodious SongstressApollousa, Bow of the Goddess.
  18. Chain 2: Melodious Concerto ② effect, place this card on the bottom of your Deck, then draw 1 card.
  19. Chain 1: Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon ② effect, Special Summon Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon from Extra Deck.

Opening with the Melodious package is great for baiting out ‘hand traps’ from the opponent before committing your Voiceless Voice cards, but it also plays poorly into Maxx “C”, thus Called by the Grave and Crossout Designator are played in the Main Deck.

Anuwat Boonruang went 11-2 and finished 2nd in “Thai Festival Series Songkran 2024” which had 166 participants.

Rescue-ACE

Renren’s build is also focused more towards board breaking, running Forbidden Droplet and Change of Heart in the Side Deck. Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay and Rescue-ACE Fire Attacker in the Side Deck are also used to help dig for board breaker when going second.

Renren (蓮々) went 5-1 and finished 2nd in “Duelist King Cup Satellite Shop Kobe Sannomiya” which had 53 participants.
