Fire King

Several Sinful Spoils Snake-Eye Fire King builds have started running 2 – 3 Fire King Consort Ulkanix in the Main Deck.

With the standard Snake-Eye Ash opening, when Sacred Fire King Garunix is Special Summoned, its effect could destroy Fire King Consort Ulkanix in deck. Then Fire King Consort Ulkanix effect would Special Summon Fire King High Avatar Garunix from deck. Both Garunix could then be used to Xyz Summon Number 90: Galaxy-Eyes Photon Lord.

Fire King Consort Ulkanix could also function as a starter when drawn, but the end board will be smaller than opening with Snake-Eye.

Mutsumi (ムツミ) went 8-0 (excluding 1 bye) and finished 1st in “Tokyo 3 CS Strongest Tournament” which had 50 participants.

Snake-Eye

Magicians’ Souls has become a standard addition in the Main Deck of many Snake-Eye builds with some even running Where Arf Thou? as additional way to access it.

Chicken Game fills the empty slots left by WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils becoming limited and Snake-Eye Ash becoming semi-limited, effectively thinning the deck and could also be sent to graveyard as cost to Special Summon Diabellstar the Black Witch, as cost for Snake-Eye Ash, Snake-Eye Oak ② effect to Special Summon a Snake-Eye monster from deck, cost for Original Sinful Spoils – Snake-Eye ① effect to Special Summon a Level 1 FIRE monster from deck, or as cost for Magicians’ Souls ② effect to draw cards.

Kim Jung-Hyun (김정현) went 6-0-1 and finished 1 – 2nd in “1923CS” which had 50 participants.

Voiceless Voice

Sakuma mentioned in his tweet (@sakuma801) that he played Ultimate Slayer against Yubel, but Yubel could put out more disruptions than he expected. Taking out 2 threats with Ultimate Slayer seems insufficient to breakthrough Yubel, so he felt it might be better to disrupt with ‘hand traps’ instead. However, Ultimate Slayer was great against Branded and Ritual Beast.

Sakuma (さくま) (4th in Japan Championship 2022) went 5-1 (excluding 1 bye) and finished 2nd in “3rd Koi CS 3v3 Team Tournament” which had 21 teams (63 participants).

Yubel

Phantom of Yubel is a great boost to Yubel, and they are now a top contender in the OCG 2024.04 format.

Yubel could setup Phantom of Yubel, Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times and Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess or Knightmare Gryphon as their opening board.

But due to the prevalence of Forbidden Droplet in the metagame, some players have adjusted their play to end on Phantom of Yubel with Unchained Soul of Rage instead. If Unchained Soul of Rage is preemptively negated by Forbidden Droplet or Infinite Impermanence, Unchained Soul of Sharvara ① effect could be activated to destroy Unchained Soul of Rage and Special Summon itself. Then Unchained Soul Lord of Yama ② effect could be activated in the graveyard, banishing itself as cost to Special Summon Unchained Soul of Rage, and destroy Unchained Soul of Sharvara. Unchained Soul of Rage is now live again and its ① effect could be used to Link Summon S:P Little Knight using itself and 1 face-up Special Summoned monster the opponent controls. Unchained Soul of Rage and S:P Little Knight together are effectively 3 disruptions.

Nautilus (のーちらす) went 6-1 and finished 1st in “3rd Koi CS 3v3 Team Tournament” which had 21 teams (63 participants).

Tenpai Dragon

While most players in Japan are using Samurai Destroyer, Wuli Mumuxiao took an interesting approach to Yubel with Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate.

Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate is a Fairy monster and would conflict with Sangenpai Bident Dragion ① effect, but this could be bypass with some clever sequencing. When Sangenpai Bident Dragion is Synchro Summoned and its ① effect is activated as Chain 1, Tenpai Dragon Paidra ③ effect can be activated as Chain 2. Resolving the Chain, Tenpai Dragon Paidra ③ effect would use Sangenpai Bident Dragion and itself to Synchro Summon Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate, then Sangenpai Bident Dragion ① effect would Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Fadra from the graveyard, and restrict the player to only Special Summoning Dragon monsters for the rest of the turn.

Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate ② effect can be activated at the end of Damage Step when this card that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck battled, to banish all monsters your opponent controls, also, for the rest of this turn, halve the battle damage your opponent takes. This effect is an effective board clear against Yubel, allowing your Tenpai Dragon to push for an One-Turn-Kill (OTK).

In the scenario that you are unable to OTK, then Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate ③ effect will activate during the End Phase. However, since you are still locked to only Special Summoning Dragon monsters by Sangenpai Bident Dragion effect, opponent’s non-Dragon monsters cannot be Special Summoned and will remain banished.

3 Koa’ki Meiru Drago and 2 Power Filter in the Side Deck further improves the match-up against Yubel.

Wuli Mumuxiao has a good write up about his deck: 决斗观点vol.236-面壁者的三大体系——1204天杯龙构筑个人详解.

Wuli Mumuxiao (武力木木枭) went 6-0-2 and finished 1st in “PDK Card Store Ranking Tournament” which had 37 participants.

Conclusion

Fire King, Snake-Eye, Voiceless Voice and Tenpai Dragon remains as the top contender, but are now joined by Yubel. The resurgence of Rescue-ACE was short-lived as many players switched back to Sinful Spoils Snake-Eye Fire King, especially when the addition of Fire King Consort Ulkanix has brought Fire King back up to snuff.

In the Yubel part, If you don’t destroy Unchained Soul of Sharvara via. Unchained Soul Lord of Yama’s effect, you cannot Link summon S:P Little Knight with Unchained Soul of Rage since Unchained Soul of Sharvara locks you into Fiend Type while it’s on the field.
