Tenpai Dragon Combo Vol.1

Tenpai Dragon is a new theme from Legacy of Destruction with a focus on Synchro Summoning during the Battle Phase to deal tons of damage.

This article will cover the basic combos of Tenpai Dragon.

25. Borreload Savage Dragon ① effect, equip Dragunity Knight – Romulus from graveyard to itself, and place 2 Borrel Counters on it.

Combo 1, 2, 3 and 4 are a variety of ways that Tenpai Dragon could pull off an One-Turn-Kill by dealing tens of thousands of damage. As Tenpai Dragon requires the Battle Phase to utilize most of their effects, they are significantly weak going first and would need to look outside their theme to improve their opening setup.

Tenpai Dragon Chundra could be Special Summoned from hand while you control a FIRE Dragon monster, allowing the deck to easily setup 2 Dragon monsters on the field. Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres is the classic choice to Link Summon. As seen in Combo 5, if the opponent goes into the Battle Phase, then Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres would be able to Special Summon a Tenpai Dragon from deck and go off with their plays. Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres combined with Kaiser Colosseum would also setup a powerful lockdown. Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres would be able to bounce the monster that attempts to attack it, and would bring out another Dragon monster to keep Kaiser Colosseum active.

Alternatively, 2 Dragon monsters could also be used for a simple Dragon Link setup, as seen in Combo 6. Borrelend Dragon could negate 1 Monster Effect and Borreload Savage Dragon could negate a card or effect activation.

The Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres setup and the Dragon Link setup are quite breakable, but they fulfill their purpose of disrupting the opponent enough such that the opponent cannot go for game. By surviving the opponent’s turn, Tenpai Dragon would be able to dish out an One-Turn-Kill on their next turn.

Tenpai Dragon is designed with a powerful Battle Phase gameplay, but as a result comes with a weak opening turn as the player going first has no Battle Phase.

Running a Rokket package to access the Dragon Link setup is a solution that Kutora (クトラ) has come up with, and his victory in “RAM Festival (Akabane Venue)” has made Tenpai Dragon a notable contender in the competitive scene.

Using Ancient Fairy Dragon to go into Ultimaya Tzolkin is another play that some players have been experimenting with. Tenpai Dragon Paidra effect could be used to Set a “Sangen” Spell/Trap from deck, and that could be used to trigger Ultimaya Tzolkin effect to Special Summon a Level 7 or 8 Dragon Synchro Monster during the opponent’s turn.

This is a promising debut for Tenpai Dragon as they Menzen Tsumo with the element of surprise in the early weeks of Legacy of Destruction release. But now their tiles are revealed, the metagame would be better prepared against them.
