Welcome to Week #8, #9 of the OCG 2025.04 format.

This report tabulates 280 top-performing decks from 46 tournaments that were held in Japan, China Mainland, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea and Vietnam during 24 May – 6 June 2025.

Vanquish Soul

Contact “C” in the Side Deck is a tech against Yummy. When the opponent successfully Normal Summon or Special Summon a monster(s), Contact “C” could be Special Summoned to their field from hand. While Contact “C” is on the field, the controller cannot Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Summon unless they use Contact “C” as material.

Contact “C” is potentially a turn skip when played after the opponent opens with Obedience Schooled. Because Obedience Schooled makes the opponent only able to Special Summon Beast monsters for the rest of the turn, the Yummy opponent would be locked out unless they have Cross-Sheep in the Extra Deck. Cross-Sheep is a Beast Link Monster with generic Link Material requirements that could use Contact “C” for its Link Summon.

If the Yummy opponent opens with Normal Summoning a Yummy Effect Monster, Special Summoning Contact “C” to their field would hinder them from Link Summoning Yummy★Snatchy. They could use Contact “C” and that Yummy Effect Monster to Link Summon S:P Little Knight. But as S:P Little Knight Link Arrows do not point towards the Main Monster Zones, the Yummy opponent would still be unable to Link Summon Yummy★Snatchy as long as S:P Little Knight is stuck in the Extra Monster Zone.

However, if the Yummy opponent has Sky Striker Ace – Camellia in the Extra Deck, then Contact “C” and that Yummy Effect Monster could be used to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Camellia, and they would still be able to go back into the Yummy combo.

  1. Contact “C” + Cooky☆Yummy → Sky Striker Ace – Camellia.
  2. Sky Striker Ace – Camellia ① effect, send Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from deck to graveyard.
  3. Sky Striker Ace – Camellia → Sky Striker Ace – Kagari.
  4. Sky Striker Ace – Kagari ① effect, add Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from graveyard to hand.
  5. Activate Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! ① effect, add Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones from deck to hand
  6. Activate Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones ① effect, Special Summon 1 “Sky Striker Ace Token”.
  7. Sky Striker Ace – Kagari + “Sky Striker Ace Token” → Cupsie★Yummy Way.
  8. Cupsie★Yummy Way ① effect, add Cupsie☆Yummy and Lollipo☆Yummy from deck to hand, discard 1 Card.

The effectiveness of Contact “C” largely depends on whether the Yummy opponents run the relevant Link Monsters in the Extra Deck that could use Contact “C” as Link Material.

Challenger went 10-2 and finished 1 – 3rd in “China Mainland WCQ 2025 Shenzhen” which had 420 participants.

Yummy

Silvera, Wolf Tamer of the White Forest is a Synchro Monster that some Yummy builds are running in the Extra Deck as an additional disruption.

Silvera, Wolf Tamer of the White Forest ① effect change all face-up monsters your opponent controls to face-down Defense Position when it is Special Summoned. This is similar to Cooky★Yummy Way, but has the advantage of being non-targeting, which means Vanquish Soul would not be able to dodge with Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger ① effect or Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius ① effect.

With Yummy★Snatchy and a Yummy Effect Monster on the field, a Yummy Synchro Monster and a Yummy Effect Monster in graveyard, you could go into Silvera, Wolf Tamer of the White Forest as follow:

  1. During opponent’s Main Phase or Battle Phase, Yummy★Snatchy ② effect, Yummy★Snatchy + Cupsie☆Yummy → Lollipo★Yummy Way.
  2. Lollipo★Yummy Way ① effect, Special Summon Cupsie★Yummy Way and Lollipo☆Yummy from graveyard.
  3. When opponent activates a card or effect, Lollipo★Yummy Way ② effect, return itself to Extra Deck as cost, Special Summon Yummy★Snatchy and Cupsie☆Yummy from graveyard.
  4. Cupsie☆Yummy ② effect, draw 1 card.
  5. Yummy★Snatchy ② effect, Cupsie★Yummy Way + Lollipo☆Yummy → The Star Ham.
  6. The Star Ham ① effect, discard 1 card as cost, Special Summon Cupsie★Yummy Way from graveyard.
  7. Yummy★Snatchy ② effect, Cupsie★Yummy Way + The Star Ham + Cupsie☆Yummy → Silvera, Wolf Tamer of the White Forest.
  8. Silvera, Wolf Tamer of the White Forest ① effect, change all face-up monsters your opponent controls to face-down Defense Position.

Silvera, Wolf Tamer of the White Forest ② effect that inflicts double piercing battle damage to opponent could also come in clutch when going for game.

Chilun (齿轮) finished 3 – 4th in “Top Deck Vis Dragon Boat Festival Tournament” which had 46 participants.

China Mainland WCQ 2025 Regionals

All 8 China Mainland WCQ 2025 OCG Regionals are completed.

The China Mainland WCQ 2025 Regionals conclude the moment the Top 2/3/4 players are determined, without any additional playoffs to decide the overall champion. Regionals with 280 participants give 2 invites, 420 participants give 3 invites, and 560 participants give 4 invites.

Guangzhou, Shenyang and Wuhan were held before Duelist Advance, and had Yummy, Dracotail and Maliss took most of the top spots. The Top 2/3/4 decks reflects a similar trend, but with Yummy showing its dominance taking up 5 of the 9 invites.

Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Shenzhen were held after Duelist Advance, and the impact of Duelist Advance is apparent as Vanquish Soul takes over the metagame. The Top 2/3/4 decks reflects a similar trend, with Vanquish Soul taking 7 of the 15 invites and Yummy taking 4 of the 15 invites. Sky Striker and Lunalight each taking 1 invite came as a surprise and showed that they could compete with the top contenders.

Asia WCQ 2025 Regionals

Almost all of Asia WCQ 2025 Regionals are completed, except for Taiwan.

Only Indonesia was held before Duelist Advance, and it shows a relatively even spread of Maliss, Dracotail and Yummy in the top cut.

Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Philippines were held after Duelist Advance, and Vanquish Soul swiftly took over the metagame.

Conclusion

The following weekends will be the roll up to the Asia WCQ 2025 Taiwan.
