Vanquish Soul

K9 Effect Monsters were designed for making Rank 5 plays, but they are not restricted to just Xyz Summons. The only limitations on K9 – #66a Jokull and K9 – #66b Lantern are just preventing them from being used to Xyz Summon a LIGHT monster when Special Summoned by their ② effect, which means they could still be used for Synchro Summon or Link Summon.

Some Vanquish Soul builds are running 1 Saryuja Skull Dread in the Extra Deck to Link Summon by using the extra bodies provided by the K9 Effect Monsters. When Saryuja Skull Dread is Link Summoned using 4 Link Materials, you can draw 4 cards, then place 3 cards from your hand on the bottom of your deck in any order. This is useful for adjusting your hand to have the appropriate Attributes to reveal for Vanquish Soul monster effects.

Ally of Justice Quarantine in the Side Deck is a tech card against Yummy. Ally of Justice Quarantine Continuous Effect prevents both players from Special Summoning LIGHT monsters, effectively stopping the opponent’s Yummy Synchro Monsters from activating their ② effect to Special Summon Yummy monsters from the graveyard, and also stopping the opponent from using Yummy★Snatchy ② effect or Shamisen Samsara Sorrowcat ① effect to Synchro Summon Yummy Synchro Monsters or Herald of the Arc Light.

Shi Yituo (史益驮) went 10-2 and finished 1 – 3rd in “Yu-Gi-Oh! China Mainland WCQ 2025 Chengdu” which had 419 participants.

Yummy

Songs of the Dominators is currently trending as a tech against K9 Vanquish Soul.

Songs of the Dominators is a Trap that could be activated from hand, but on the condition of having no monsters in graveyard. If Songs of the Dominators is activated from hand, you cannot activate the effects of monsters in your hand, graveyard, and banishment, until the end of the next turn. Yummy is largely unaffected by this drawback. Yummy Effect Monsters ① effect that Special Summons themselves from hand is not an activated effect that uses the Chain Block, allowing them to be Special Summoned even while under the drawback of Songs of the Dominators. The other Yummy Effect Monsters and Yummy Synchro Monsters monster effects activate on the field.

Songs of the Dominators ① effect negates the effect of an opponent’s monster that activates on the field, and if you have a Trap in your graveyard, you can add 1 “Dominus” card from your deck to your hand. As this negates the effect directly without targeting the monster, Vanquish Soul would not be able to dodge with Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger ① effect or Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius ① effect.

Using a Trap lineup of Dominus Purge, Songs of the Dominators and Infinite Impermanence plays around the opponent’s K9 – #17 Izuna and K9 – #ØØ Lupus. Infinite Impermanence is a Trap that could be played from hand and is useful for enabling the bonus effect of Songs of the Dominators and Dominus Purge.

Sonoda (そのだ) went 8-0 (excluding 1 bye) and finished 1st in “50th RAM Cup Individual Tournament” which had 61 participants.
