OCG 2025.01 Metagame Report #6

Welcome to Week #6 of the OCG 2025.01 format.

This report tabulates 105 top-performing decks from 22 tournaments that were held in Japan, China Mainland, South Korea and Vietnam during 8 – 11 February 2025.

Metagame Breakdown

Ryzeal

Many players have started cutting Nibiru, the Primal Being from their deck due to it being relatively ineffective against Ryzeal and Maliss.

When Ryzeal has Infernal Flame Banshee, Star Ryzeal, Ext Ryzeal and Ryzeal Cross on the field, this is the timing to drop Nibiru, the Primal Being, before Ryzeal could use Star Ryzeal and Ext Ryzeal to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive. Once Ryzeal Duo Drive hits the field, it would be able to negate Nibiru, the Primal Being effect using Ryzeal Cross ③ effect. Even if Nibiru, the Primal Being were to drop at the above moment, Ryzeal still has Node Ryzeal added to hand earlier from Ext Ryzeal ② effect and would still be able to continue with their play.

Many Ryzeal builds are also running Metaltronus over Ultimate Slayer in the Side Deck for the Ryzeal mirror match, as a premium removal against Ryzeal Detonator. Metaltronus has the option of being used as an extender by Special Summoning a Level 4 Ryzeal Monster from your deck, making it a very versatile tech choice in the mirror match.

Masuku (ますく) went 9-1 and finished 1st in “4th Anniversary RAM Festival (47th RAM Cup)” which had 120 participants.

Maliss

Similarly Maliss could also play around the opponent’s Nibiru, the Primal Being.

When Maliss has Maliss Q Red Ransom and Link Decoder on the field, this is the timing to drop Nibiru, the Primal Being, before Maliss could use Maliss <Q> Red Ransom and Link Decoder to Link Summon Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess. Once Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess hits the field, it would be able to negate Nibiru, the Primal Being effect using its ③ effect. Even if Nibiru, the Primal Being were to drop at the above moment, Maliss still has Maliss in Underground added to hand earlier from Maliss <Q> Red Ransom ① effect and would still be able to continue with their play.

Some Maliss builds have moved Droll & Lock Bird from the Side Deck to the Main Deck as a tech against Ryzeal.

Greenwich (グリニッジ) went 6-1 (excluding 1 bye) and finished 5 – 8th in “4th Anniversary RAM Festival (47th RAM Cup)” which had 120 participants.

Conclusion

Ryzeal and Maliss have a dominating presence on the OCG metagame. Ryzeal and Maliss deck builds are becoming homogeneous, possibly close to reaching their optimal build.

    Would be nice to include some insights with the builds of the other contenders like White Forest especially with the new support.
