Rescue-ACE

Daikon (だいこん) went 6-1 and finished 1st in “GIRAFULL Namba CS 3v3 Team Tournament” (18 Sep) which had 21 teams (63 participants).

He ran 2 Super Polymerization directly in the Main Deck to break the opponent’s board.

Mudragon of the Swamp is used against Auroradon build of Rescue-ACE and Centur-Ion, Fusion Summoned with Super Polymerization by using the opponent’s Herald of the Arc Light and F.A. Dawn Dragster, Centur-Ion Legatia and Crimson Dragon respectively.

Starving Venom Fusion Dragon is Fusion Summoned with Super Polymerization by using any opponent’s DARK monsters such as I:P Masquerena, S:P Little Knight, El Shaddoll Winda, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss.

El Shaddoll Shekhinaga is a very specific tech against Danger Ishizu Tearlaments, Fusion Summoned with Super Polymerization by using the opponent’s El Shaddoll Winda and Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir.

Purrely

Thrower (スローワ), Raito (ライト) and Ryu (リュウ) ran the exact same 70 cards, went 4-0-3, 5-2, 6-1 respectively, and finish 1st together as a team in “Yu-Gi-Oh! Area Championship 2023 in Sendai” which had 83 teams (249 participants).

2 Droll & Lock Bird were ran in the Side Deck against Danger Ishizu Tearlaments. Droll & Lock Bird would not stop the Danger monsters from activating their effects to Special Summon themselves from hand, but it would stop the card draw and that would hamper their ability to extend their plays. If the opponent is attempting the Maxx “C” challenge, then Droll & Lock Bird could also be used to prevent yourself from decking out due to your own Maxx “C” effect.

Tearlaments

On Saturday, Haru (はる) went 5-0-2 and finished 2nd in “Tsukuyo CS 5v5 Team Tournament” which had 16 teams (80 participants). On Sunday, Haru (はる) went 4-0-2 and finished 1st in “GIRAFULL Namba CS 3v3 Team Tournament” (17 Sep) which had 16 teams (48 participants).

Danger Tearlaments was one of the builds that was played before the release of Ishizu monsters. However, Danger plays poorly into Maxx “C” so Danger Tearlaments has not seen much success in the OCG.

Running Card Destruction in the Main Deck allows Danger Ishizu Tearlaments to take up the Maxx “C” challenge by decking out the opponent. Card Destruction can be activated multiple times in the same turn by shuffling back to deck with Keldo the Sacred Protector and Mudora the Sword Oracle effect.

Setting up El Shaddoll Winda and Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir is also another play that Danger Ishizu Tearlaments could open with to lock out the opponent. El Shaddoll Winda effect would limit both players to just 1 Special Summon for the turn, while Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir effect would turn face-up monsters on the field to Defense Position, negating the activated effects of monsters that were in Defense Position when that effect was activated, and protecting El Shaddoll Winda from being attacked.

Even with all the countermeasures against Maxx “C”, Danger Ishizu Tearlaments still have a rather rather mediocre performance. Most of their tops are from team tournaments, while the other Tearlaments builds are performing better in individual tournaments.

Centur-Ion

Prime (プライム) finished 2nd in “Yu-Gi-Oh! Area Championship 2023 in Sendai” which had 83 teams (249 participants).

Centur-Ion could also be played with a Superheavy Samurai package. The standard Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakaushi opening would bring out Baronne de Fleur to protect your Centur-Ion combo. Then Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakaushi and Superheavy Samurai Soulgaia Booster could be Pendulum Summoned from Extra Deck and hand respectively.

Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakaushi and Superheavy Samurai Soulgaia Booster could be used to Xyz Summon Infernal Flame Banshee, whose effect would be able to add Centur-Ion Trudea from deck to hand.

Alternatively Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakaushi and Superheavy Samurai Soulgaia Booster could be used to Synchro Summon Chaos Ruler, the Chaotic Magical Dragon, whose effect would excavate the top 5 cards of your deck, and could add Centur-Ion Primera or Centur-Ion Trudea to hand if they were among the excavated cards. Chaos Ruler, the Chaotic Magical Dragon is a Level 8 monster and could be used with Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakaushi or Centur-Ion Primera to Synchron Summon a Level 12 Synchro Monster such as Centur-Ion Legatia or Crimson Dragon.

Fire King

Pon D (ポンD) went 5-2 and finished 3rd in “6th Prohibition Cup Individual Tournament” which had 34 participants.

The new support cards from Structure Deck R: Onslaught of the Fire Kings gave Fire King a new strategy that allows them to break into the competitive scene.

Legendary Fire King Ponix is new starter for Fire King, and since it is a Level 1 FIRE monster, it could be Special Summoned with the Sinful Spoils package. Normal or Special Summon Legendary Fire King Ponix and activate its effect to add Fire King Sanctuary from deck to hand. Activate Fire King Sanctuary and place Fire King Island from deck face-up in Field Zone. Activate Fire King Island effect, destroy Legendary Fire King Ponix from field to add Sacred Fire King Garunix from deck to hand. Since a FIRE monster is destroyed by card effect, Sacred Fire King Garunix ① effect could be activated to Special Summon itself from hand. Then Sacred Fire King Garunix ② effect would destroy Fire King Avatar Barong from deck.

During the opponent’s Standby Phase, Legendary Fire King Ponix effect would add itself from graveyard to hand, and Fire King Avatar Barong effect would add Fire King High Avatar Kirin from deck to hand. During the Main Phase, Fire King High Avatar Kirin effect could destroy Legendary Fire King Ponix from hand to Special Summon itself. When the opponent Special Summons a monster, Fire King Sanctuary ③ effect would use Sacred Fire King Garunix and Fire King High Avatar Kirin to Xyz Summon Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings, whose effect would destroy all other monsters on the field.

Conclusion

At the end of the OCG 2023.07 format, Rescue-ACE, Purrely and Tearlaments are still in the Top 3, but Centur-Ion has made great stride, almost catching up to Tearlaments.

Structure Deck R: Onslaught of the Fire Kings has some impact on the metagame with Fire King entering the competitive scene. It is interesting to note how recent card design such as Stand-Up Centur-Ion! and Fire King Sanctuary are trending towards Summoning during the opponent’s turn.
