Dragon Ruler

The big Dragon Rulers became semi-limited, while both Sacred Sword of Seven Stars and Gold Sarcophagus became semi-limited, causing Dragon Ruler’s consistency to be greatly reduced. Card Trooper was played as a way to send the Dragon Rulers from deck to the graveyard, and its low ATK 400 allows it to be Special Summoned by Debris Dragon. Although the monster Special Summoned by Debris Dragon would have its effect negated, Card Trooper effect could still be activated to have the cost send the top 3 cards of deck to graveyard.

Having only 2 of each big Dragon Ruler also meant that they would run out rather quickly, and Burial from a Different Dimension had to be played to recycle them.

Koa’ki Meiru Drago prevents both players from Special Summoning LIGHT or DARK monsters, and is a great tech against Artifact, Chronomaly and Evilswarm.

OCG 2014.02 → OCG 2014.04 Limit Regulation changes:

  • Redox, Dragon Ruler of Boulders 2 → 1
  • Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls 2 → 1
  • Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos 2 → 1
  • Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms 2 → 1
  • Sacred Sword of Seven Stars 1 → 2

Dragon Ruler received another wave of hits, putting the big Dragon Ruler down to limited, and finally bringing a stop to their dominance in the competitive scene.

Chronomaly

Chronomaly was competing in a decent spot in the previous OCG 2014.02 format, and the new Limit Regulation paved the way for it to move up in ranks.

Chronomaly Nebra Disk was the powerful new support that packs both consistency and extender. Normal Summoning Chronomaly Nebra Disk would allow it to add a Chronomaly card from deck to hand. Chronomaly Nebra Disk could also be Special Summoned from the graveyard if all monsters you control are Chronomaly, which then could be used as a material for Xyz Summons.

The release of Artifacts later Primal Origin, gave Chronomaly another boost and Artifact Chronomaly quickly became the dominant build. The power of Artifacts comes from Artifact Moralltach, which could destroy an opponent’s face-up card when Special Summoned. Being Level 5 LIGHT also enabled it to go into powerful Rank 5 monsters such as Constellar Pleiades.

Evilswarm

Despite having its key monster Evilswarm Ophion limited, Evilswarm still managed to edged out a 3rd position, largely with its ability to play many of the powerful Rank 4 monsters. However, Chronomaly could also make Rank 4 plays, resulting in many players switching over to it instead.

Light-Imprisoning Mirror is a great tech against Artifact and Chronomaly.

Conclusion

After taking 4 consecutive 1st position across 4 formats in a span of 1 year 1 month, the Dragon Ruler dynasty has finally come to an end.
