Ranking Tournament (2015.01.25) with Yosenju

Yosenju

After enjoying success in the previous tournament, I stuck with Yosenju and continue to refine and optimize the deck against the metagame.

Unfortunately I committed the mistake of overcompensating, and as a result perform poorer with an overall relatively weaker deck.

Deck List

Deck List - Yosenju 2

Looking to improve my Game 1, I decided to shift a few of my commonly used Side Deck into the Main Deck.
Here are the changes from the previous deck list:

1 Instant Fusion → 1 Pot of Duality
I increased my Pot of Duality to 3 to improve the consistency of the deck in achieving board control, at the expense of burst potential.

2 Magic Cylinder → 2 Mirror Force
I was looking for a stronger board control and decided to drop Magic Cylinder since it’s merely a burn card.

2 Forbidden Chalice, 1 Macro Cosmos → 3 Vanity’s Emptiness
Running Vanity’s Emptiness in the Main Deck was the prime objective of this change to improve against the Nekroz and Shaddoll match-up.

2 Bottomless Trap Hole → 1 Compulsory Evacuation Device, 1 Starlight Road
I shifted both Bottomless Trap Hole to the Side Deck and played Compulsory Evacuation Device instead which is slightly better against Shaddoll.

Swiss Round 1: Exodia

Exodia the Forbidden One

Game 1, not knowing what my opponent was playing, I set Mirror Force, Starlight Road, Macro Cosmos, Vanity’s Emptiness and played Fire Formation – Tenki. That was usually a strong opening against most decks, but turned out to lock myself out from playing any other Spell as my opponent was running a stall variant of Exodia. After severe turns of drawing with Worm Linx and Des Lacooda, my opponent managed to complete his Exodia set.

Side Out Side In
2 Macro Cosmos
2 Mirror Force
2 Torrential Tribute
3 Vanity’s Emptiness
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Nobleman of Crossout
3 Twister
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device
1 Starlight Road

Game 2, my opponent was unable to set up his stall and it became a simple rush down.

Game 3, my opponent tried to stall with Swords Of Revealing Light but I had Twister to breakthrough.

Match Result: XOO

Swiss Round 2: Shaddoll

El Shaddoll Construct

Game 1, I had a strong opening and managed to bring my opponent down to 2100. Fearing a Torrential Tribute, I tried to play safe with Thunder King Rai-Oh instead of trying for a win with my 2 Yosenju in hand. It was a Ring of Destruction which left him at 200 LP, enough to burst me down on the next turn.

Side Out Side In
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Mirror Force
2 Torrential Tribute
2 Nobleman of Crossout
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device

Game 2, I found myself with no answer against El Shaddoll Winda as my opponent had Bottomless Trap Hole against my Yosenju Kamaitachi.

Match Result: XX

Swiss Round 3: Nekroz

The Nekroz Armor of Trishula

Game 1, my Vanity’s Emptiness was taken out by a Mystical Space Typhoon and I found myself facing down against Nekroz of Trishula. Nekroz of Decisive Armor joined on the next turn to quickly end the game.

Side Out Side In
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Compulsory Evacuation Device
2 Macro Cosmos
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
3 Diamond Dust

Game 2, my opponent drew poorly and I seized the chance to rush down with my Yosenju.

Game 3, my hand had 3 Yosenju, forcing me to go for a rush down strategy, which my opponent had no answer.

Match Result: XOO

Swiss Round 4: Qliphort

Qliphort Scout

Game 1, I was in a race before the card advantage from Qliphort Scout would overwhelm me. Ring of Destruction and his Solemn Judgement against my Harpie’s Feather trickled down his LP quickly and I was able to scrap a win with Gagaga Cowboy.

Side Out Side In
1 Compulsory Evacuation Device
2 Macro Cosmos
2 Torrential Tribute
3 Vanity’s Emptiness
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
3 Twister
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
1 Mirror Force
1 Starlight Road

Game 2, I had early control with Thunder King Rai-Oh, but my opponent had a Ring of Destruction for it. Following was getting burst down by the effect of Qliphort Disk.

Game 3, I had a Harpie’s Feather taking out most of my opponent’s Trap cards, opening up the path for my Yosenju to beat down.

Match Result: OXO

Top 8: Train

Number 81: Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Superior Dora

Game 1, I had no answer against Number 81: Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Superior Dora.

Side Out Side In
2 Macro Cosmos
1 Starlight Road
3 Vanity’s Emptiness
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
3 Twister
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device

Game 2, my opponent was unable to Xyz summon his Number 81: Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Superior Dora, so it was simply beat down with Thunder King Rai-Oh and the Yosenju.

Game 3, I had no answer against Number 81: Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Superior Dora again. I didn’t have the proper Side Deck for this match-up, so it was more of a race to win before Number 81: Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Superior Dora hits the field.

Match Result: XOX

Conclusion

The record of 3-2 is a reflection of the deck being much weaker compared to the previous build. The 2 Macro Cosmos and 3 Vanity’s Emptiness were too many passive cards, and I often find myself hoping that they were actual reactive cards that could answer my opponent’s threats.

Similar to the previous build, Lightning Chidori and a second Gagaga Cowboy are crucial in the Extra Deck, I just haven’t been able to locate a copy before the tournament.

  1. i dont like halberd in yosendeck, but can get number 16 fast, no?

    • Akira says:

Yes, summoning Number 16 is quite easy, but rarely a winning condition by itself since you would had used up too many resources to summon it.

I like running Assault Halberd to bait my opponent into activating their Trap card(s), ensuring that my Yosenju will be safe later on.
